Drug Free Mindset Show

Today we are excited to have Janelle as our guest.

What do you remember as a child growing up and what was your life like?

Something she was told by her grandmother was when she was 6 months old her mother over dosed her with meth. Now she has breathing problems from that.

What was the worst thing you remember growing up involving your parents using drugs?

She remembers her father being passed out in there front lawn, she also remembers her father going the rehab and getting beat up. Her parents split up and her father had custody over her but he had the same problems as her mother, but he would hit her and her sister with a whip. Her mother also had her stab a guy with a knife.

When did you realize that being an addict was not normal?

About the age of 8 she knows her parents were not normal.

When you finally understood that your parents were addicts did it affect your social skills, confidence or self-esteem?

It did but she hid it very well in front of people.

Have things changed from when you were younger?

Not one bit, her dad moved her family out of state and then abandoned them to this day. She still doesn’t know where he is.

Did you ever have to enter into the system or move away from your parents before you were 18?

She put herself in the system she did not want to live with her parents she was 15 and pregnant and had nowhere to go so she called CPS herself.

What is your relationship with your parents now?

She let her mother come back in her life but just recently she had been using drugs again.

What would you want your parents or other parents to know about how their abuse affects their children?

It is so hard to let you parents know that you are hurting your kids, all your kids want is your love and attention they love you.

Thank you for sharing your story, I know it was probably one of the hardest things you’ve had to do but we hope, parents hearing these types of story think twice and make a change for the better.
